Week Dos

Compared to the beach, it’s been kind of an uneventful past 3 days.  Monday I had a great Skype conversation with my parents.  Josh joined in and we had some good laughs.  Speaking of laughter, the host family and Josh and I have been laughing a lot together.  I think that’s a good thing.  It’s helping us become closer I feel.  We had a good laugh with them Monday night at dinner about “pan” (bread).  Our host brother, Jose, loves pan so I made up a song about pan and sang it to him J (It goes something like this… ahem… “Pan pan pan pan pan”).  My American parents were also able to meet my host parents via Skype which was pretty cool even though they couldn’t understand each other.  I did my best translating.

Also on Monday I participated in a small focus group at Veritas to help its marketing department improve on gaining new international students.  They just asked a few questions about how we found out about the program and such.  The good thing about the focus group was that they gave us a free lunch.  Saving calones everywhere helps.  Tuesday night was dance club night.  Josh and I weren’t really feeling up to it but we went any ways and, of course, had a good time.  Met some new faces and got a good “dance workout” in.

Yesterday (Wednesday), we had an ISA meeting about our upcoming trip to Arenal this weekend.  It’s a volcano.  There’s supposed to be hot spring there that you can swim/relax in as well as alcoholic beverage bars right next to those hot springs.  Not like I drink a lot though J  The volcano should be pretty cool to see.  I’m going horseback riding too this Saturday around the volcano.

After the meeting I went to the mall with Quincy so she should get Harry Potter in espanol.  The store didn’t have the first book so she bought the 4th one instead.  McDonald’s after for lunch.  Weird eating American food outside of America.  Wednesday night was also the Crash Party at the university.  Basically, it’s just a big barbecue at the school with dancing to help ticos (Costa Ricans) meet gringos (US people).   In all honesty, there wasn’t much food there.  Good thing we ate before we hit it up.  The dancing was great actually.  Dancing is definitely a part of the Costa Rican culture.  I’ve never dance so much in my life these past 2 weeks.  I kind of like it.  We ended up staying at the party the whole time.

I have my first oral Spanish exam today so wish me luck!  I then have Intercultural Communication from 3-5 and then dance class tonight from 8-9:30.  We leave tomorrow for Arenal at 1pm.  My mouth tastes bad…I’m going to go brush my teeth.  Hasta Luego!
