Dance class last night was really fun but I still suck at it. We learned the basics of marange and salsa. The next class is Thursday night so hopefully I’ll be able to hone in my skills then. By the way, dance class is a great way to meet girls. There really weren’t too many guys there lol.
Basic I yesterday was a breeze. I really haven’t learned anything new except for maybe a few vocab words. However, listening to the profesora talk and even just speaking the phrases I already know, I’m beginning to feel more confident about my Spanish. Maybe after the first week or two I can ask to be upgraded to basic II. If not, I guess I’ll make the most of this class. I’m taking another Spanish course next semester so that should help my Spanish improve too. I’m here for 4 months: I should be able to at least be able to speak the language pretty darn good when I leave. I also had my Intercultural Communications class with the professor from Concordia Austin. It’ll be like any other class I’ve taken at CUAA. However, we’ll mostly be designing a packet for future Concordian students to read and learn about the program to help them make a decision about studying abroad here. Should be fun I guess.
Anyways, it’s about 7am here. Josh is in the shower. I’m in the living room. Gleys, our host mom, is will probably get up in about 10-15 minutes to set out breakfast for us and then probably go back to sleep. I have Spanish today again from 8am-12. The class is every weekday for 4 hours. Then after Spanish we have a group ISA meeting at 12:15 to talk about the weekend trip coming up. We’re going to go to Tamarindo, a beach on the Pacific side of the country. We’ll be staying at a hotel there, all 52 of us, and spending a few days exploring. More on that later…
After the meeting I want to go to the sports/futbol club at 12:30-2 but I might miss it since I’m not sure how long the meeting will last. Plus, I want to eat lunch sometime! I have my Logistics Management class tonight from 4-6pm. It’s taught by a costarricense (Costa Rican) but in English. The class sounds boring but hopefully I'll learn some good stuff. Later tonight, a group of us students are going to take a taxi and go to the movies in the mall. It’s 2 for 1 on Wednesdays so a ticket is only like $2.50. Cheap compared to the $10 in the US.
I’ll let you guys know how classes, the sports club, and the movies go later tomorrow. Adios!
