I ended up not going to the sports club yesterday since it was raining when I left the meeting at ISA. Plus I would have been late and hungry. So instead, Josh and I got some burritos from a guy at the university who runs a little food-stand. For the life of me though I cannot remember his name. It gave me gas. Anywho, we sat around the university just talking with people, trying to expand our horizons. I think I found someone to surf with when we go to the beach this weekend.
I had my logistics management class last night too which went really well. Our professor is really easy-going and nice. He got his masters and undergrad at the University of Texas so he knows English. He has actually taught at the university in Texas too. As a class we decided that he should speak in Spanglish to help the rest of us improve our own language skills. I think I will like the class even though it sounds really really boring.
We also went to the movies last night and saw Gulliver’s travels. The movie itself is in English but with Spanish subtitles. I guess it would just look too weird if they dubbed it over. We took a taxi there but I had someone who knew Spanish with me so I felt pretty comfortable. But on the way back, Josh and I had to take a taxi home by ourselves. I’m not sure if the guy cheated us or not. Seemed like an expensive ride to me for only being a few minutes. It told us that it costs more at night to take a taxi. I asked a friend and she said that was right but I‘m still skeptical. Any opinions on the matter? Well we got home safe and I managed alright telling him where to go. Being comfortable trying to speak in Spanish is half the battle.
Today, like every weekday, I have Spanish in the morning from 8-12. Josh and I have also decided that we are going to go outside of the university to eat lunch. I’m not sure how we’re going to order food and tell them what we want but unless we force ourselves outside of out comfort zone we’re never going to learn or fully experience wide range of opportunities here. Plus it will help us improve our Spanish. I have Intercultural Communication from 3-5pm (the Concordia class) this afternoon and then I think we’re going to try to go to the supermarket to buy a few things and practice our Spanish. Dance class tonight too! I think I’ll take some pictures for ya’ll tonight.
Side note: the movie theater is in a mall and in that mall’s food court is Taco Bell, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Burger King, Subway, Quiznos, etc. It was kind of weird to see all those America food chains in a foreign country. I also accidently put TP in the toilet this morning. Don’t worry, I fished it out….and washed my hands after.
so, if you flush it down, do the toilet police come and get you?
